About the Author

Gareth Price is CTO at CorralData, an AI-powered business intelligence platform serving the healthcare industry. He builds the natural language-to-SQL copilot and dashboard generation system that the company sells, manages the engineering team that builds it, communicates the technical strategy to the board that funds it, and — on most days — does all three before lunch while trying to remember when he last merged a pull request. He is, in other words, the person this book is about.

Before CorralData, Gareth was a technologist at The New York Times, where he worked on the Storylines team, and at Codecademy, where he built tools for the people who teach other people to code. He studied artificial intelligence at the University of Manchester at a time when the field was considered a respectable but mildly eccentric career choice rather than the subject of every board meeting in the Western world.

He writes about technology, leadership, the startup experience, and the intersection of cultural theory with AI at Res·cog, a blog whose name — short for Res Cogitans, Descartes' "thinking thing" — is either a statement of intellectual ambition or a warning about the kind of person who would name a blog after Cartesian dualism. The reader may decide.
